Tips for getting food and beverage sponsors

If you’re planning an event for 50 people or more, and you’re affiliated with a local nonprofit, you will most certainly
want to identify and approach a food and beverage sponsor. The San Francisco group has been successful approaching
different vendors such as Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and local food shops for in-kind contributions of food.

What kind of food and beverages?

Easy hors-d’oeuvres/finger foods
Other simple platter foods like fruit, veggies, & dip
Cheese, crackers, nuts
Soda, water, juice

Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Brainstorm a list of potential local food vendors
Step 2: Explore if you or others you’re connected with have connections
Step 3: Call to find out the contact person and donation policy and make the request
Step 4: Follow up with a letter (see sample letter)
Step 5: Follow up with a phone call
